I love my boys. Especially when they are so cute … and giggly … and cooperative … and in front of a cool wall to be photographed!

I just wish I’d known I was going to run into this wall. If I had, I would have dressed them in something more ‘portrait-worthy’ … To me, this image highlights how clothing plays a key role in the outcome of successful portraits and as such, should be considered carefully. If I had actually planned for this shoot, I would not have chosen to have a huge logo emblazoned across Lincoln’s chest and would have opted for a less busy T-shirt on Nate. Too distracting. Bright, bold colors in a coordinating color scheme across the two boys would have greatly enhanced this shot.

It’s still a good image. But it could have been great. That being said, I still absolutely adore this image and will proudly display it on my walls.

Cailean: I actually disagree and think it IS great because it was spontaneous and fun and your boys are dressed like they normally are. Sometimes the shots that are too posed take away from the "how it really is" life with kids.

viviZ: Sharene & Sara: thanks for the nice comments! Cailean: really, really great point. I love that perspective and think that I do follow that philosophy for the most part. Since I do agree with you, I had to pause and think about why I felt -- and wrote -- what I did. I guess the rationale behind my post's perspective stems from the fact that when I actually took this shot, I had a creative vision in mind for "the look". As a result, I have a hard time seeing this image without thinking about the outfit I would have wanted to achieve said look. When it's all said and done, however, what makes the shot is their spirit, their essence and their connection coming through in that instant I clicked the shutter. Thanks for being a devoted viviZ blog reader and follower!
